Asia Cup Tournament Format
Here is a general overview of the 2022 Asia Cup format as every cricket fan in Asia gets ready for the event to begin. One can wonder why this year or the 2016 version of the event was conducted in the T20I format whereas all previous versions of the Asia Cup were conducted in the ODI format.
To address that question, the International Cricket Council announced that, starting in 2016, Asia Cup matches would alternate among One Day International and T20 International formats, based on the format of upcoming international competitions, following the scaling back of the Asian Cricket Council in 2015. This is the rationale for using the T20 format for the 15th edition of the competition.
Group Stage: Three phases will be played during the 2022 Asia Cup. The group stage, where each team from each of the 2 groups will play once against the other team, will be the first phase. The teams will be placed in their respective groups according to the points they receive for winning. The top 2 teams from each of the two groups will move on to the Super 4 stage, which is the next round.
Super 4 Stage: All 4 teams will face one another in a round-robin style during the Super 4 stage. This stage will also use the same point system. The final stage, or the Final, will include a matchup between the top two finishing teams.
Final: A new champion for Asia will be named after the ultimate victory.
