GT vs SRH is a clash between two teams with different priorities. With 16 points from 12 games, Gujarat Titans (GT) will want to ensure they won’t finish outside the top two. Meanwhile, for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), it is all about keeping their slim playoff hopes available. A defeat will end Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 champions’ top-four hopes.
Gujarat Titans
Shubman Gill has been the star batsman for GT in IPL 2023. The 23-year-old is 25 runs away from reaching 500 runs in an IPL season for the first time. The last time GT played at home, Gill made 94*, while his opening partner Wriddhiman Saha scored 81 runs. The likes of Hardik Pandya, David Miller, Vijay Shankar, Abhinav Manohar, and Rahul Tewatia make the GT batting unit a formidable one.
Is there a spinner who has made more impact than Rashid Khan in IPL 2023? The Afghan spin king, who has 23 wickets so far, is back to usual best after being unable to reach the 20-mark in the last two IPL editions. Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma, and Noor Ahmad have provided the leg-spinner with excellent support.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
The batting unit remains SRH’s biggest concern. Against Lucknow Super Giants, the top batters Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, and Abhishek Sharma failed to register a big score. The franchise had to rely on Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad to post a competitive total. SRH cannot afford another top-order failure with their playoff hopes in the balance.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan, two experienced players in the SRH squad, failed to deliver for the franchise this season. The Orange Army relied on spinner Mayank Markande, the only SRH bowler to surpass ten wickets. Also, youngsters Umran Malik and Washington Sundar haven’t had the best campaigns.
GT vs SRH Head-to-Head
GT and SRH have met twice in IPL, and both teams have grabbed a win each. In the last meeting between both teams, GT clinched a five-wicket win courtesy of a half-century by Wriddhiman Saha and match-winning efforts from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan.
