Women’s T20 World Cup Winners List – Australia
The Southern Stars went on to win the trophy in the subsequent two editions. They beat England in the final in the 2012 and 2014 editions. Australia beat England by four runs in the title clash of the third edition in Colombo. In 2014, a crushing six-wicket win at Shere Bangla National Stadium in the final saw them clinch a hat-trick of titles.
2018 & 2020 Women’s T20 World Cups
Ashleigh Gardner’s brilliant all-round performance saw them win a fourth T20 World title. She clinched 3/22 and scored a quick-fire 33* to deny England for a third time in the final. Australia added a fifth trophy after hammering India by 84 runs in the final of the women’s T20 World Cup seventh edition. Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney struck half-centuries in the match.
All-rounder Ellyse Perry
Ellyse Perry, who has appeared in both cricket and football world cups, is one of the greatest cricketers in the women’s game. She made her international debut in 2008 and is still a vital cog in Australia’s all three formats. With 37 wickets, she has the second-most wickets in the women’s T20 World Cup. Perry has also scored 311 runs in 21 innings.
England in T20 World Cup Winner List
England was the inaugural winner of the women’s T20 World Cup. In 2009, the then-Charlotte Edwards-led side played fantastic cricket throughout the tournament. England hammered India by ten wickets in their opening match and crushed Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their next two group stage outings.
England met arch-rivals Australia in the semi-final. Although Australia amassed 165, England chased it down with three balls remaining. The final was another one-sided contest as Katherine Brunt’s 3/6 helped England bowl out New Zealand for just 85. England wrapped up the match in the 17th over and lifted the trophy on their home soil.
West Indies’ 2016 Triumph
West Indies pulled off one of the biggest surprises in the 2016 Women’s World Cup in India. The Caribbean side started the tournament on a bright note with victories over Pakistan and Bangladesh. England inflicted a first defeat on them, but the Windies sealed a semi-final courtesy of a narrow three-run win over India in their final group stage fixture.
In the semi-final, Deandra Dottin kept her cool in the last over to steer West Indies to a six-run over New Zealand. It was Australia – chasing their fourth successive title – they met in the final. The defending champions posted a challenging first innings score of 148. An opening partnership of 120 and Dottin’s quickfire 18* saw West Indies win their maiden title in women’s international cricket.
